The company was founded in 1806 bits namesake John Sutton, in Reading. Initially a corn supplier, he was joined in 1832 by his family, and eventually, they branched out into the flower and vegetable seed trade. Following a bout of what was then known as ‘tulip mania,’ Sutton Seeds started importing bulbs and seeds from Holland, and soon received Royal patronage, in 1958, when Queen Victoria commissioned Suttons and Sons to provide seeds for the Royal palace. 80 years before it became law, Suttons developed a lab to test all seeds for germination and quality.
Now located in Paignton, Suttons distribute seeds all around the world, with discounts for community garden societies. With special services available for charities, schools, and worthy causes, Suttons are committed to nurturing growth in your community as well as growth in your garden.
