Founded in 1923 by Herbert Whitley, the zoo has always been at the heart of wildlife conservation and education in the UK, and set up the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Fund in 1955. Along with being one of the main attractions in the South West, Paignton Zoo is also a charity, and works tirelessly to improve natural habitats and the conservation of wildlife around the world.
At the zoo, you will not only be able to see and meet your favourite wild animals such as lions, gorillas, tigers, cheetahs, camels, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, and kangaroos to name just a few, you’ll also be able to learn all about them with educational talks, information points, and even educational clubs that kids and teens can join. All year round, you can go to see stunning shows and displays, including the seasonal bird show which is held in their Animal Encounters Theatre, under cover so that visitors can enjoy the show no matter what the weather. And, little ones can let off steam after meeting their favourite wild animals at the outdoor and indoor play areas. Before you leave, don’t forget to head to the Living World gift shop where you can pick up a souvenir.
